Email marketing is a powerful tool—yeah, we know, you’ve heard it a million times. But if you’ve ever sent an email that got ignored, ended up in the spam folder, or went straight into the void, you also know it’s not as easy as "just send and succeed."

Crafting emails that get read and acted upon? Now, that’s the real trick. Let’s talk about how to make sure your emails don’t end up getting ghosted by every client in your contact list.

1. Nail That Headline—Without Looking Desperate

A good headline is the secret to getting people to actually open your email. But please, for the love of goth, don’t go for the "FREE!!!" or "LIMITED TIME ONLY!!!" approach. We get it—those headlines make you feel like a marketing rockstar. But all-caps and spammy words look like the desperate door-to-door salespeople we all avoid and pretend not to be home. Instead, write interesting and genuine headlines that make people curious enough to click.

While we’re at it, clickbait might get you short-term gains, but it’ll also lose your trust and subscribers in the long run. People aren’t here for the games—give them real value, and they’ll stick around.

2. Keep It Short, Sweet, and To the Point

In email marketing, balance is everything. Keep the message tight, focused, and to the point. We’re all bombarded with a mountain of emails every day—no one wants a novel in their inbox. HubSpot analyzed 30 emails from different industries and found that the most effective ones had beautiful graphics paired with minimal text. The takeaway? Make it visually appealing and keep it short—less really is more when it comes to getting your audience’s attention.

Have one thing you want them to do. If you want readers to check out your latest blog, give them a taste—a short, punchy summary—and then hit them with a call-to-action. And because most of us read emails on our phones (often while distracted), test how your email looks on a mobile screen. Make sure that juicy call-to-action button is front and center, not hiding below a wall of text.

3. Don’t Be the Annoying Salesperson

Your emails should be about more than just selling, selling, selling. Offer your readers something useful. Give them information, resources, and reasons to trust you. Show them why you’re the one to turn to when they need help—not just someone pushing for their next commission check.

No one likes feeling like they’re a wallet with legs. The key is to build a relationship, not push them away with hard-sell tactics. Trust us, it’s worth the wait.

4. Plan Ahead, But Don’t Overdo It

You need a plan—a calendar to keep you organized and consistent. Set up your email schedule a few months in advance. But remember, there’s a fine line between staying in your audience's mind and making them want to unsubscribe faster than you can say "weekly newsletter."

One email per client per week? That’s a good starting point. They’ll remember you’re there, without feeling like you're constantly breathing down their neck.

5. Check the Data—And Be Ready to Adapt

Numbers don’t lie. Open rates, click-through rates, conversion rates—they’re your best friends when it comes to figuring out what’s working. Dig into the data and adjust your strategy accordingly. Did that email flop? No big deal. Learn, refine, and try again.
